Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a disorder in which a child is developmentally behind and may have behavioral issues. ASD is the most complex behavioral disorder and is heavily influenced by genetics. Parental age plays a large role in Autism Spectrum Disorder, but there are other factors, environmental and genetic, influencing it. Complications and genetic mutations affects the child and are compounded by parental age. It is one of the largest factors playing a role in ASD outside of genetics. Genetics is the largest factor to ASD which is a multigenic disorder. There are various mutations, deletions and/or additions that all unify to create ASD. Therefore, genetics, parental age and complications are the leading causes of ASD.

The genders affected by the ASD are significantly inconsistent. For every girl that has the condition, there are roughly four boys with it, This could be because of genetic differences between the sexes. If an autism linked mutation occurs on the X chromosome, females can be left on affected because they carry a second copy of chromosome X. Plenty of genes on the X chromosome are susceptible to mutations which are recognized as autism causing. The gap between the presence of autism in genders may also be due to the standards used to diagnose autism are based on the characteristics of male behavior, making it difficult to detect the condition in females. Female brains require a greater number or severity of mutations.
